New gTLD Update – Scottish Users Prefer .scot

Welcome to Scotland images

The campaign for a TLD for Scotland announced a small change of tack earlier today on their facebook presence. While previously the campaign had been focussed on setting up the .sco tld for Scottish culture etc., they are now pressing ahead with .scot instead.

Davie Hutchinson, one of the main movers in the .scot movement explained the change:

We’re going for dotSCOT after a research survey was conduct by the
Scottish Government which showed that was the string with, by far, the
strongest backing.

In some respects this may help with some of the possible trademark issues that could have arisen, so it’s probably a good move.
