IEDR Working On Implementing Comreg Report

The IEDR is currently in discussions with its resellers with a view to implementing some of the aspects of the Comreg report published in January of this year.

There are two key issues that need to be addressed, however whether they can be treated separately or not is another matter.

In the first instance the IEDR is attempting to setup a policy advisory board of some kind that would help with policy issues and development.

The second matter is to formalise the relationship between the registry and its resellers through a formal registrar contract.

Unfortunately not many of the 100 odd resellers have taken the time to give the registry feedback on its proposals.

Does this mean that the reseller community is apathetic?

I somehow doubt it.

What is more likely is that there is a combination of legacy issues from the previous administration of the registry combined with business pressures ie. resellers are too busy running their day to day business to get actively involved in discussing contracts and policy matters.

Given the lack of response you describe, the total lack of media coverage of resellers’ opinions, the total lack of said opinions on resellers’ blogs/sites/etc., and the very scant response from resellers to the initial consultation, I think it’s fair to say there is a significant amount of reseller apathy!

  2. As I said, I don’t think it’s apathy.

    Most of the IE resellers do not blog and when they do it’s mainly marketing material as opposed to actual opinion / comment.

    The media attention (or lack thereof) is partially the IEDR’s fault, as a lot of the communications they send out are quite lacking in any real depth.

    However I get the distinct impression that a lot of the resellers are simply unaware or too time poor at present to really get stuck in
