The IETF (Internet Enginerring Task Force) is the main internet standards body. If you’re reading this blog post then you’re relying on standards that came out of IETF.
In common with a lot of work that goes into making the internet function, IETF is not a commercial organisation and relies on volunteers who contribute via mailing lists and working groups. However they have recently formed a corporate entity, IETF LLC, which is the “legal home” for IETF, IAB and IRTF.
Earlier this week they announced that they have appointed Jay Daley to be the IETF’s Executive Director.
Jay has been deeply involved in domains and internet technologies for the better part of 20 years, having been at Nominet, headed up the .nz ccTLD registry, served on the board of .org, been interim CEO of .org and much more.
His role, which is new, will be to manage the day to day operations of IETF.
