ICANN Announces GDD Summit Dates & Location

ICANN Logo

Prior to the Covid pandemic leading to the cancellation of all “in person” events across the globe ICANN had been planning to hold its annual GDD Summit for registrars and registries in Paris, France. That event got cancelled completely and there’s no indication if or when the organisation will try to bring the event to Europe again. They will, however, be holding the Summit this year in Los Angeles, California.

What? 2022 Contracted Parties Summit (GDD Summit)

Where? Los Angeles, California, USA – exact location hasn’t been announced yet

When? November 1st – November 4th

You can peruse the archives of previous events here, just ignore the details of the cancelled Paris event.

At this stage no details of the event’s schedule have been decided, as the topics etc., are usually driven in collaboration between the registries, registrars and ICANN Staff via their respective stakeholder groups.

Another, important question, which has not been addressed yet is whether ICANN will try to force attendees to agree to their ridiculous waiver in order to attend.

I specifically asked about this during the recent ICANN meeting in The Hague, but so far have not received a formal response.

  1. That waiver just says it is up to you to make sure you are safe and take full risks if you do.

Why should event organizers bear the full brunt of safety? What’s next, you go with gold chains and rings to a Brazilian Favella then expect Brazil to be responsible?

Attendees should be responsible partially for taking risk in in-person events.
