DotPress Pioneer Program Launches

June 18, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Final-Press_LogoOne of the other uncontested strings that Radix applied for is .press. Personally I think this could be quite an attractive extension, though I’m not sure how “big” it will be in terms of volumes. As a blogger and someone who is fascinated by the media I really think that a .press domain name could be used in some pretty interesting ways.

Earlier today Radix announced details of both the .press timeline and the .press pioneer program.

The key dates are:

Sunrise opens June 24th, 2014. Landrush opens August 26th 2014 and the string will enter general availability on September 17th.

The .press pioneer program is almost identical to the one they announced for .host a few days ago.

Anyone who is interested should download the terms and conditions document and review them. Simply put, you can apply for a single .press domain name. You must use it prominently and market it / with it. In return for you marketing and using the domain name they’ll give you the usage of it for a year. Speaking to some of the Radix guys at HostingCon in Miami this week it sounds like they’ll cede full control of the domain to the pioneer after the first year.

In terms of market positioning Radix have spent quite a bit of time thinking about this and have a number of suggestions:

Unlike a lot of of the other new TLD applicants Radix has plenty of experience as a registrar, so they understand better than many what the market wants and needs, which is reflected in their marketing strategy.
