Video: Section 230 Explained

Section 230 of the Communications Decency Act is arguably one of the most important bits of legislation that impacts the internet. Without it a lot of what we all consume and interact with online would probably cease to exist. While it is a US law its impact is global.

For the last couple of years the legislation has been under constant attack from both sides of the aisle in the US. Trump himself has tweeted about it multiple times, even though, hilariously, without Section 230 his favourite platform, Twitter, probably wouldn’t even exist.

However Section 230 is often misunderstood or misrepresented.

Mike Masnick from TechDirt has a very good article that dispels a lot of the myth and misleading rhetoric.

And as promised here’s a video from NetChoice:

Whether anything will happen in the final weeks of Trump’s presidency or not is debatable, but it’s also unlikely that the debate around this piece of law will vanish overnight.
