No ICANN Face to Face Events Until After June

April 3, 2021 by Michele Neylon

In a move that surprised absolutely nobody ICANN has formally extended their “travel ban” until the end of June 2021. Realistically I suspect that the suspension of travel and face to face events is going to be extended beyond June.

In a blog post ICANN CEO Göran Marby outlined briefly the current state of play with respect to events, meetings and the ICANN offices.

What’s interesting is that the offices re-opening will be on an office by office basis, which makes sense.

The next ICANN meeting was meant to be held in The Hague in June and will now be online instead.

It’s looking increasingly unlikely that the 3rd meeting of the year which was scheduled to take place in Seattle will go ahead “in person”. While the US and some other countries are doing quite well with their vaccine rollout, that is not the case in many other parts of the world.

Personally I don’t expect to be attending any international events this year.
