Kieren McCarthy Elected to Nominet Board

Last Friday the elections for Nominet’s Board closed.

There were three candidates for one position as a non-executive director (NED), with two lawyers and a journalist running.

As I mentioned previously one of the topics that candidates were quite vocal about was Nominet’s investment and subsequent sale of their cyber security interests in the US. Over the course of the last few weeks, however, a variety of other topics were raised, with one candidate questioning the very legality of the election for which they were running.

In any case the election proceeded and the results were announced earlier today.

Kieren McCarthy was elected for a three year term and will join the Board at the Nominet AGM tomorrow. He published details of his campaign goals here.

The turnout for the election was just over 15%, which is far from stellar. But, unfortunately, turnout at Nominet elections is always low.

Disclosure: Kieren was one of the two candidates I nominated for this year’s election.
