ICANN’s NomCom Announces 2025 Selection

August 20, 2025 by Michele Neylon Leave a Comment

In common with other Internet Governance related organisations ICANN has a nominating committee (NomCom) that selects people to serve on various bodies such as councils, boards and committees. While the majority of seats on the various councils etc., are selected by the respective participant organisations there is a small number that are chosen by the NomCom. Inevitably some of the people who apply for various positions will be already part of the ICANN community, but the NomCom often selects people from other walks of life.

This year the NomCom received 106 applications, with 73% being from males and the remaining 27% from females. The geographic breakdown was:

37 percent were from Africa.
25 percent were from Asia, Australia, or the Pacific Islands.
16 percent were from Latin America or the Caribbean.
8 percent were from Europe.
2 percent were from North America.

So who got selected this year?

The ICANN Board gets 3 new appointees:

Sajid Rahman Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands
Constance Bommelaer de Leusse Europe
Raúl Echeberría Latin America and the Caribbean

Public Technical Identifiers Board of Directors gets one; Lise Fuhr (Europe).

At-Large Advisory Committee (ALAC) gets three:

Adebunmi Akinbo Africa
Aftab Siddiqui Asia, Australia, and the Pacific Islands
Hannah Frank Latin America and the Caribbean

Country Code Names Supporting Organization (ccNSO) Council gets one:

Olga Cavalli Latin America and the Caribbean

And the Generic Names Supporting Organization (GNSO) Council gets two:

Christian Dawson North America Non-Contracted Parties House
Gaurav Vedi North America Contracted Parties House

Some of the appointees are well known in ICANN circles, while others would be newcomers.

The new appointees will take up their roles at the end of the AGM this October in Dublin.
