ICANN holds three meetings a year and usually rotates their location by region (following ICANN’s definitions).
One of the regions that is in the rotation includes the Middle East with the AGM for 2026 scheduled to take place in Muscat, Oman.
Right now there aren’t many people who would view that region of the world as being “stable”. Earlier this year when the meeting was being held in Mumbai, India many attendees got rerouted or had their flights cancelled as most of the gulf carriers were forced to ground their fleets.
So many people in the ICANN community, including me, believed that the likelihood of a meeting being held there this year was very very low. And finally in the last few days ICANN has announced that the meeting location is being switched.
So where is ICANN heading?
Bali in Indonesia. It’s a fantastic spot if my past experiences there 10 years ago are anything to go by 🙂 (My sister got married there)
Registration for the meeting is expected to be open from July onwards and I’d also expect them to announce hotel room blocks and rates around that time too.
