Jay Westerdal suggests that GoDaddy maybe buying part of RegisterFly. Tralliance in Trouble – .travel could die

May 20, 2007 by Michele Neylon

It looks like 2007 is going to be an awkward year for the domain world. Earlier we had the collapse of RegisterFly, now we have the strong possibility of the .travel domain going bust. The .travel domain has always been an oddity. The idea behind it is fairly obvious, but when you combine the strict rules, price and length of the domain it becomes apparent why it has been … [Read more...] about Tralliance in Trouble – .travel could die

Will you drop your .eu domain?

May 1, 2007 by Michele Neylon

Will you be renewing your .eu domain? Even if you renew it for year two, will you bother for year 3? How many .eu domains are going to be dropped this year? It's an interesting question. At its height .eu had over 2.6 million domains active, though that has already dropped to 2.3 million and is still dropping.... … [Read more...] about Will you drop your .eu domain?

EUrid Code of Conduct – Legislating The Obvious?

April 3, 2007 by Michele Neylon

I mentioned on my main blog some of the shenanigans at the EUrid session at ICANN in Lisbon. What I failed to mention was the much talked about code of conduct. (The temptation to make snide remarks about the choice of domain is strong, but I shall resist!) I would apologise for that oversight, however that would be hypocritical. I'm not sorry that I didn't mention it … [Read more...] about EUrid Code of Conduct – Legislating The Obvious?

Where are all the domains?

February 6, 2007 by Michele Neylon

If you were to give a cursory glance at the top list on WebHosting.info you would have to be forgiven for not thinking that there are some very odd patterns: A disproportionate number of the nameservers listed would appear to belong to domain parking companies, while the remainder would probably have a large percentage of "parked" domains as well. While there is nothing … [Read more...] about Where are all the domains?

Dot Asia – Ramping up for launch

February 2, 2007 by Michele Neylon

The dot.asia registry team are currently touring the globe to promote and inform the domain market about the next big thing. When you take into consideration the overall Asian market, then it's easy to see how the new regional domain could become an important force. Dot asia have the distinct advantage of having been able to observe both the .eu launch and that of … [Read more...] about Dot Asia – Ramping up for launch
