August 17, 2021 by Michele Neylon

ICANN Logo

ICANN has announced that they are expanding the scope of contractual waivers for security issues to include registrars. That's a bit of a mouthful, so I'll try to unpack it a bit. Under normal circumstances both registrars and registries are bound by ICANN policies and contractual obligations. PIR (.org) Hiring CTO

August 15, 2021 by Michele Neylon

PIR aka the .org registry, is hiring for the role of Chief Technology Officer (CTO). Up until 2018 PIR did not have a CTO, which is when they hired DNS veteran Joe Abley to fill the role. Fast forward three years and Abley has moved on to pastures new (he's now over at Neustar / GoDaddy registry doing funky DNS stuff) and so the role is up for grabs again. July 16, 2021 by Michele Neylon

ICANN officially announced its plans for the next meeting which was meant to be held in Seattle in October. It's going to be virtual. Again. I suspect that this will not sit well with some of the North American participants who would have been able to attend an "in person" event. However the situation globally is a lot less certain and most definitely not uniform. At time … [Read more...] about ICANN Won’t Meet in Person in 2021

CIRA to Provide DoH to Canadian Firefox Users

July 9, 2021 by Michele Neylon

CIRA, the .ca domain name registry, will be providing DNS over HTTPS for Firefox users in Canada. So what's that all about? In common with many domain name registries, CIRA has diversified over the last few years. Offering DNS based services is a logical extension for a domain name registry, as the larger ones will have built out quite a lot of technical infrastructure … [Read more...] about CIRA to Provide DoH to Canadian Firefox Users
