CIRA to Provide DoH to Canadian Firefox Users

July 9, 2021 by Michele Neylon

CIRA, the .ca domain name registry, will be providing DNS over HTTPS for Firefox users in Canada. So what's that all about? In common with many domain name registries, CIRA has diversified over the last few years. Offering DNS based services is a logical extension for a domain name registry, as the larger ones will have built out quite a lot of technical infrastructure … [Read more...] about CIRA to Provide DoH to Canadian Firefox Users

Brexit Impacted EU Domains Now “Withdrawn”. What Next?

July 7, 2021 by Michele Neylon

On July 1st any domain names that were impacted by the UK's withdrawal from the EU, Brexit, were moved to a status of "WITHDRAWN". This means that not only is the domain no longer "in zone" but it's also no longer in the original registrar's control either. This is yet another step in the process that the European Commission decided on in order for .eu domain names that had … [Read more...] about Brexit Impacted EU Domains Now “Withdrawn”. What Next?

We are now well over a year into a global pandemic. While the vaccine rollout in some parts of the world has been going well we are still a very long way off a full return to any semblance of normality. Many countries are still imposing travel restrictions, both on their own citizens as well as travellers to those countries. It's not surprising that ICANN has officially … [Read more...] about ICANN Extends Travel Ban For Staff But Seattle Could Proceed

IE Domains Subject of Question in Dáil

May 18, 2021 by Michele Neylon

It's not often that domain names get a mention in the Dáil (Irish parliament), so when it happens it's worth seeing why. Last week IE domain names came up in the Irish parliament due to Brexit related issues with imports of products from outside Ireland. The question was put to the government as follows: "To ask the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Employment if he … [Read more...] about IE Domains Subject of Question in Dáil

No ICANN Face to Face Events Until After June

April 3, 2021 by Michele Neylon

Göran Marby

In a move that surprised absolutely nobody ICANN has formally extended their "travel ban" until the end of June 2021. Realistically I suspect that the suspension of travel and face to face events is going to be extended beyond June. In a blog post ICANN CEO Göran Marby outlined briefly the current state of play with respect to events, meetings and the ICANN offices. … [Read more...] about No ICANN Face to Face Events Until After June

EURid Tweaks Post-Brexit Handling of Impacted Domains

March 18, 2021 by Michele Neylon

From January 1st 2021 the UK is no longer part of the European Union and consequently .eu domain names can no longer be registered or held by UK individuals or businesses. EURid, the .eu domain name registry, operate the registry under contract to the European Commission, so they are bound by whatever rules the EC put on them (within reason). Over the last couple of years … [Read more...] about EURid Tweaks Post-Brexit Handling of Impacted Domains
