I posted about the case on my company's blog the other day and the case and its implications have been covered widely in the media. The most recent development is that Apple has filed … [Read more...] about FBI vs Apple: A Bit Of Light Reading

Heading To ICANN 55? Local Data SIMs Might Save You Money

February 24, 2016 by Michele Neylon

The next public ICANN meeting is being held in Marrakech early next month. I'll be attending, so I thought I'd check with my mobile phone company about their roaming rates for both voice and data. I've also seen several colleagues from the ICANN community posting about the rates their providers are quoting. Short version - it's not cheap! (The mobile phone company we use … [Read more...] about Heading To ICANN 55? Local Data SIMs Might Save You Money

February 24, 2016 by Michele Neylon

US Senator Ted Cruz

Earlier this month US Presidential hopeful, Senator Ted Cruz, wrote to ICANN CEO Fadi Chehadé to express his displeasure over Chehadé's activity in China. Chehadé's reply was sent last week and obviously did little to placate the Republican politician. In a release from Cruz's office last night it's pretty clear that we haven't heard the end of this episode (emphasis … [Read more...] about Ted Cruz vs ICANN CEO Saga Continues

Nominet Issues Data On Domain Suspensions Due To Criminal Activity

February 18, 2016 by Michele Neylon

In common with a number of other ccTLDs, Nominet has policies governing "criminal activity" involving domain names. The Nominet policy in this areas was formalised back in 2014 and allows them to suspend domains based on reports from a variety of sources: The revised terms and conditions published by Nominet expressly prohibit any .uk domains being used to carry out … [Read more...] about Nominet Issues Data On Domain Suspensions Due To Criminal Activity

February 11, 2016 by Michele Neylon

RIPE NCC logo (2015 version)

This one piqued my curiosity this morning. There is no IPv4 left. While that's not something that non-techies care about (yet) it is something that people in the technical community are worried about at some level. Within the RIPE region the IP address allocation policy is governed by "the last /8 policy". A potential loophole in the policy allows new LIRs to get an … [Read more...] about Are RIPE Members Trying To “Game” The System?
