ICANN Advertising For Director of gTLD Registry Services

October 4, 2012 by Michele Neylon

ICANN currently has a number of job vacancies open, which isn't that surprising for an organisation of its size. One of them, however, caught my eye: Director, gTLD Registry Services, Los Angeles, United States Reading the job description this sounds very like the role formerly held by Kurt Pritz (well - one of his roles .. ): The Director, gTLD Registry Services will … [Read more...] about ICANN Advertising For Director of gTLD Registry Services

Wired Think Verisign Competes With GoDaddy

September 11, 2012 by Michele Neylon

Wired is one of the few publications that generally does a good job of reporting all things technical and internet related. However the magazine's site last night ran an article reporting on the GoDaddy outage with the title: Amid Outage, GoDaddy Moves DNS to Competitor VeriSign On what planet do GoDaddy and Verisign compete? I had posted a comment on the article over … [Read more...] about Wired Think Verisign Competes With GoDaddy

IEDR Suffers Another Outage

September 11, 2012 by Michele Neylon

The IEDR are currently experiencing another outage. IEDR had previously suffered an outage from lunchtime on Saturday until 6am yesterday morning. While they had informed registrars and the public that they were considering taking services offline at some point in the next 24 - 48 hours this most recent issue was apparently unplanned. While the outage has taken whois … [Read more...] about IEDR Suffers Another Outage

GoDaddy Suffers Massive Outage

September 11, 2012 by Michele Neylon

GoDaddy is the world's largest registrar and hosting provider. Earlier this evening they suffered a massive outage which appears to be related primarily to their DNS. However it is unclear if that is the issue and it is also unclear as to what is the cause. At the moment pretty much every tech blog on the planet, tech journo and tech pundit is pushing out blog posts, … [Read more...] about GoDaddy Suffers Massive Outage

August 7, 2012 by Michele Neylon

The .nz domain registry has announced that they have enabled DNSSEC in the New Zealand namespace: New Zealanders will be able to better secure their web presence from today, thanks to a major technical security deployment by InternetNZ subsidiaries .nz Registry Services (NZRS) and the Domain Name Commission (DNCL). RAA Negotiations Update – Is Anyone Going To Be Happy?

June 5, 2012 by Michele Neylon

I cannot write impartially or objectively about the RAA (Registrar Accreditation Agreement - the contract between ICANN and its registrars). It would be disingenuous of me to even try to do so. I run a registrar so any changes to the RAA will have a direct and tangible impact on me, my staff and my clients. In relation to this I posted at length on the company blog a few … [Read more...] about RAA Negotiations Update – Is Anyone Going To Be Happy?

DotPro Registry Migrating To Afilias Backend

March 8, 2012 by Michele Neylon

The .pro registry will be migrating to the Afilias EPP system in June 2012. The move is hardly surprising, as the .pro registry was acquired by Afilias early this year. What impact will this have on registrants? Pretty much none. Registrars, however, will need to re-integrate their backend systems with the registry and unfortunately their existing connections with … [Read more...] about DotPro Registry Migrating To Afilias Backend

Domains, DNS and Internet Policy & News Blogs?

January 13, 2012 by Michele Neylon

I'm a creature of habit. I read articles from quite a wide range of sources, but a lot of the links are coming to me from the same people over and over again. So the question I have is this Which sites do you go to for news and opinion for the internet industry? ie. internet policy, domains and DNS (Not startups and all that thanks!) Feel free to recommend your own … [Read more...] about Domains, DNS and Internet Policy & News Blogs?
