IEDR Switch A Nameserver

February 20, 2013 by Michele Neylon

While this might not be terribly exciting unless you’re a DNS geek ..

IEDR have changed one of their nameservers.

Banba is no more.

Well it’s still there .. .. it’s just not in the root anymore:

eg.

dig +trace log.ie

; <<>> DiG 9.7.3 <<>> +trace log.ie
;; global options: +cmd

ie.            172800    IN    NS    gns2.domainregistry.ie.
ie.            172800    IN    NS    gns1.domainregistry.ie.
ie.            172800    IN    NS    a.iedr.ie.

;; Received 413 bytes from 202.12.27.33#53(M.ROOT-SERVERS.NET) in 256 ms
<snip>

This means that IEDR are no longer relying on UCD for DNS services.

The real impact of this change? Neglible.

They’re still using both Esat BT and AFNIC for some DNS services, while they’re using NetNod, UltraDNS and themselves for the others.
