DotCat Fastest Growing TLD in Spain

The .cat registry has released some figures for domain growth in Spain during 2014 and .cat has emerged as the overall winner.

The data is based on research conducted by the .es registry oddly enough!

The .cat namespace was the one that grew most in the Spanish market during 2014 with an overall growth of 17%. This contrasts with other domain extensions, including .es which grew by 3%, .com which dropped by 9%, .net that dropped by 11% and .org which dropped by 9%. (rough translation – sorry!)

The research also shows that .cat is favoured by commercial users with over 60% of .cat based sites being run by businesses.

In terms of geographic breakdown the bulk of registrations are in Barcelona (75%), Girona (13%), Tarragona (7%) and Lleida (5%).
