A few months ago ICANN announced that Elise Gerich would be stepping down as head of IANA. Yesterday they formally announced that Kim Davies would be replacing her.

The official job title is Vice President, IANA Services and President, PTI.

The IANA functions are the bits that are truly crucial for the proper functioning of the internet globally:

Public Technical Identifiers (PTI) is responsible for the operational aspects of coordinating the Internet’s unique identifiers and maintaining the trust of the community to provide these services in an unbiased, responsible and effective manner.

Kim Davies has been working for ICANN for several years and was deeply involved with the IANA functions as its Director of Technical Services.

In his new role he’ll be reporting to Akram Atallah, President of ICANN’s Global Domains Division (GDD).
