Centralnic Swallows IWantMyName

August 7, 2019 by Michele Neylon

Centralnic has been on an acquisition trail for the last couple of years and has been happily gobbling up as much as possible. Earlier today it was announced that they’ve just acquired New Zealand based IWantMyName (Ideegeo).

The deal is valued at £2.75 million and it looks like it’s already closed, as the IWantMyName site is already sporting a Centralnic logo.

So who is IWantMyName?

They’re a fairly small company in terms of headcount, but as Centralnic note in their announcement of the acquisition it’s all about the user experience:

Its leading User Interface and Customer Engagement solutions, and the team that created them, represent a further differentiator for CentralNic’s global retail business from the competition to support our organic growth.

Ben Crawford, Centralnic

The company offers a broad range of domain extensions, but to date hasn’t offered hosting. It also, interestingly, was never an ICANN accredited registrar, but was a large customer of another Centralnic acquisition, 1API. Interestingly with IWantMyName coming under the same umbrella as both 1API and Key Systems IWN’s founder Timo Reitnauer will, in some respects, be returning to working with his colleagues. Before moving to New Zealand he worked at Key Systems.

It sounds like there won’t be any immediate changes for customers of IWantMyName, though a couple of the co-founders are exiting immediately.

So who will Centralnic acquire next?
