CORE, which runs the backend for .cat and .museum, has been chosen by SportAccord, the International Sports Federation, to run the backend and administration for a .sport bid.

In a press release issued earlier today Vincent Gaillard, Director General of SportAccord, spoke of the choice of CORE:

“We are extremely happy to appoint CORE to apply and operate the future .sport domain name. we were looking for a partner that fully understands and endorses the values, culture and principles of Sport, and we are convinced that with CORE, we have found exactly the right partner”

With the application window for newTLDs opening tomorrow expect to see more announcements of this type in the coming weeks.

Of course bidding on .sport, or any other string, is no guarantee of success and there have been several other entities who had made noises about bidding on .sport in the past couple of years.

All will be revealed in May!
