Nominet’s New CEO Announced

October 28, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Russell_Haworth_600x370Nominet have announced the appointment of Russell Haworth as their new CEO.

Mr Haworth will join the company in January 2015. Mr Haworth was most recently Managing Director, Middle East and Africa, Thomson Reuters. He’d been with the company in a variety of roles since 2000.

Mr Haworth apparently had a website at russellhaworth.com up until relatively recently, but it’s currently offline and the domain is pointing to a GoDaddy holding page. (You can still retrieve something via Google’s cache)

He does, however, have a Twitter account and a LinkedIn profile.

Here’s the official announcement:

Russell Haworth is to join Nominet as our new Chief Executive Officer. Russell will lead the organisation as we develop our core registry business, explore the potential of new technologies, and continue to deliver on our commitment to ensuring the internet is a force for good. Commenting on the appointment, Nominet Chair Baroness Fritchie said: “We are at an exciting stage in Nominet’s development, and we need an excellent leader and ambassador for the organisation. Russell brings the right mix of leadership qualities, experience of working in complex stakeholder environments, an understanding of the importance of good governance, and a strong track record in developing a core business while exploring new opportunities. We are very much looking forward to working with him.” Russell, who joins us formally in January, said: “Nominet has made a major contribution to the success story that is the internet in the UK, and is recognised as a world class registry. So it’s a privilege to lead the organisation and take on the challenge of building on these solid foundations to grow, innovate and diversify. It is clear that working well with members has always been key, and I look forward to hearing your perspectives on the industry and how we can work with you to create a successful future.” Russell was previously Managing Director, Middle East & Africa for Thomson Reuters, and is Co-founder of Saya-Ventures, a venture capital fund focused on early stage investing in disruptive technologies. Russell will join Nominet – and the Nominet Board – in January 2015.
