DNS Belgium Adds Registrar Association and Others To Board

June 20, 2016 by Michele Neylon

DNS Belgium, who run both the .be ccTLD as well as .brussels and .vlaanderen, have announced some additions to their board of directors.

The newly formed Belgian Registrars Association, Bereas, is joining the board, as is Comeos, BeCommerce and IAB Belgium.

Full details in the release below:

Leuven, 20 June 2016 — DNS Belgium, the non-profit association responsible for the management of domain names ending with .be, .vlaanderen and .brussels, appointed the representatives of four new members to its board of directors at the board meeting of 13 June. By including new members in the non-profit association, DNS Belgium wants to guarantee the stability of the organisation and to create a broader reflection of the digital society.

Who are the new members?
The first to join the organisation is Bereas, the Belgian Registrars Association. This is a newly established association of .be registrars, with Frank Louwers as representative in the policy council. Then there is Comeos, which represents the Belgian trade and services, and sent Pieter Van Bastelaere to the policy council. The third new member is BeCommerce, the Belgian association of companies active in e-commerce, represented by Patricia Ceyssens. Finally, there is IAB Belgium, the professional association of the digital and interactive communication market, which sent Jan Decorte as representative.

DNS Belgium has been open to new members from the outset, but started searching actively itself in 2014. That is when Feweb became a member. This is the federation of web companies, represented in the policy council by its chairman, Peter Ryckaert.

What consequences will this expansion have on the direction DNS Belgium will take?
Philip Du Bois of DNS Belgium: “The accession of these 4 organisations brings a broader picture in DNS Belgium of the needs of the digital economy, and how we as an organisation can do our bit. The daily management of the non-profit association also ensures that we can decide upon certain actions from a broader perspective.”
