Cayman Islands Joins GAC
Seemingly the Cayman Islands has appointed a representative to ICANN's GAC - where all the governments hang out. Their appointee, who should be attending the meeting in Toronto next week, is Mr Samuel Rose. Mr Rose hails from the Caymans' Ministry of Finance, Tourism and Development. This appointment might have something to do with Frank Schilling's Uniregistry being … [Read more...] about Cayman Islands Joins GAC

IEDR Lose Google.ie?
This could prove to be quite embarrassing. It looks like IEDR have allowed the nameservers for the domain google.ie to be updated to point to a 3rd party and away from Google. Effectively this means that google.ie and any services that rely on it are currently not working. Here's the current whois record for Google.ie. Note the rather odd nameservers: whois … [Read more...] about IEDR Lose Google.ie?
.pw ccTLD Being Relaunched by Directi
Directi have announced their plans to relaunch the .pw ccTLD officially next week at the ICANN meeting in Toronto. The country code .pw was originally assigned to Palau, which is a small island in the Pacific (I had to look it up!) When ICANN signed the affirmation of commitments back in 2009 it committed to conducting regular reviews on its accountability and transparency. Strickling To Crocker – ICANN Needs To Do More To Protect IP
The US Department of Commerce's Larry Strickling has written to ICANN again. This time it's about new TLDs, the RAA, law enforcement and trademark protections in new TLDs. By the tone and choice of words it sounds like the US Department of Commerce either assumes that ICANN will be able to force registrars to agree to the LEA demands or is happy with the concessions … [Read more...] about Strickling To Crocker – ICANN Needs To Do More To Protect IP
IEDR Data Dump
As regular readers probably know, I run Blacknight. Blacknight is Ireland's largest hosting provider and domain name registrar. We're also the only Irish company to ever have been accredited with ICANN. And we're the single largest registrar of .ie domain names on the planet. If you peruse the archives here and on my personal blog you'll see quite a few articles which are … [Read more...] about IEDR Data Dump
ICANN Advertising For Director of gTLD Registry Services
ICANN currently has a number of job vacancies open, which isn't that surprising for an organisation of its size. One of them, however, caught my eye: Director, gTLD Registry Services, Los Angeles, United States Reading the job description this sounds very like the role formerly held by Kurt Pritz (well - one of his roles .. ): The Director, gTLD Registry Services will … [Read more...] about ICANN Advertising For Director of gTLD Registry Services
