Nominet Suspends Russian Registrars

March 10, 2022 by Michele Neylon

Nominet logo (2015)

Nominet has unilaterally decided to suspend all its Russian registrars. As far as I can tell there's no legal obligation on Nominet to take action against registrars based in Russia, but they've decided to suspend them. However they're also claiming that they don't want to impact existing registrations. With the Russian registrars suspended there's no way for them … [Read more...] about Nominet Suspends Russian Registrars

Eurid Logo

The .eu registry is phasing out Greek mixed script registrations, as there's now a specific domain extension for Greek script. If you want to register a domain using Greek then there's the .ευ which is specifically designed to serve Greek.greek domains. They reminded registrars of this phase out recently: From 14 November 2022, only Greek domain names with the Greek .ευ … [Read more...] about Greek Mixed Script .eu to be Removed in November

The .in Domain Registry Shoots Itself in the Foot

January 12, 2022 by Michele Neylon

Country code domain name registries have a very broad set of rules and regulations. For people who are used to the more predictable world of .com and other gTLDs the way ccTLDs are run can seem a little like the wild west! Personally I enjoy working with ccTLDs, but I do find that some of them are their own worst enemy. The most recent one to shoot themselves in the foot? … [Read more...] about The .in Domain Registry Shoots Itself in the Foot

Israel ccTLD to Launch Hebrew IDN

December 21, 2021 by Michele Neylon

Israel's ccTLD manager has announced that they'll be launching a Hebrew IDN country code domain extension in 2022 - “.ישראל”  The .il country code currently has around 275 thousand domains under management, with the bulk of them in co.il. The existing Latin ccTLD previously allowed for IDN registrations in Hebrew on the left of the dot, though they are no longer … [Read more...] about Israel ccTLD to Launch Hebrew IDN

DNS Belgium Registrar Forum Seeking Members

December 20, 2021 by Michele Neylon

DNS Belgium logo

In common with several other European country code domain operators DNS Belgium runs a "registrar forum". As the name suggests it's a place where the registry and registrars are able to discuss potential changes to policies, products and operations. The forum meets 2 to 3 times a year, normally in Leuven or Brussels, though recently its meetings have been online only. … [Read more...] about DNS Belgium Registrar Forum Seeking Members

.TV Switching to GoDaddy Registry

December 14, 2021 by Michele Neylon

The island of Tuvalu got lucky when they were assigned the two letter country code "tv". When internet domain names became a thing over 20 years ago they were naturally given the .tv domain extension and, as we all know, that has been used for many a video or TV based business. The domain registry has been operated by Verisign for years under a contract with the government … [Read more...] about .TV Switching to GoDaddy Registry

.US Town Hall 2021

October 26, 2021 by Michele Neylon

The .us ccTLD registry has a stakeholder council which holds a "town hall" annually. This year's meeting will be held on November 4th at 1200 Eastern. The town hall will cover updates on what's been going on with .us and their plans for the future. As it's a "town hall" format there's usually the option for people to ask question and interact with the panelists. The … [Read more...] about .US Town Hall 2021

EURid has won the tender bid to operate the .eu domain for a further 5 years until 2027. The official announcement was made by the Belgium based company on Monday, though they'd informally announced that they had the winning bid at the Web Awards last Friday night. "We feel honoured to have been chosen to continue to serve the .eu stakeholders," stated "EURid is an … [Read more...] about EURid Wins Bid to Keep Registry Contract

Spanish ccTLD on Track to hit 2 Million Registrations

October 13, 2021 by Michele Neylon

The .es domain registry for Spain is on track to hit the two million domains registered mark. They'll probably break the two million mark this side of Christmas if my calculations are correct. In common with many other country code domain name operators, the .es registry offers multiple extensions though the data clearly shows that most people and businesses opt for .es, … [Read more...] about Spanish ccTLD on Track to hit 2 Million Registrations
