The Puma IE Domain Dispute is Disturbing

July 11, 2019 by Michele Neylon

People and companies register domain names all the time. Sometimes you know exactly why you're registering a domain name and you have very specific plans for it. Other times you don't. However it's a pretty safe bet that if somebody registers a domain that is an exact or very close match to their company name that they're going to use it at some point. It's also very clear to … [Read more...] about The Puma IE Domain Dispute is Disturbing

A Detailed IE Domain Dispute Decision

February 25, 2019 by Michele Neylon

Reading domain dispute decisions is a rather odd way to spend your day, but I'll admit that I do read quite a few of them. Why? Because it's fascinating to see why and how people win or lose these disputes. The .ie ccTLD traditionally has had a very low volume of complaints, with it being rare for them to get more than a handful of complaints per year. With the … [Read more...] about A Detailed IE Domain Dispute Decision

For Dummies Win WIPO Case Against Dummy

October 20, 2011 by Michele Neylon

Why did this case catch my eye? Well when the respondent tells WIPO that the domain is "available to lease" it's going to catch my attention WIPO have awarded John Wiley & Sons the domain webhostingfordummies.com following a UDRP dispute. What surprised and amused me was the reply the registrant sent WIPO on being notified of the dispute: The Respondent did not reply … [Read more...] about For Dummies Win WIPO Case Against Dummy

Bebo Drop Bebo.ie

August 8, 2009 by Michele Neylon

Bebo.ie, which was registered in bad faith, was handed back to its rightful owners last year. However Bebo Inc obviously don't care enough about the .ie domain to hold onto it, so it's been dropped. So will anyone try to grab it again? It will be interesting to see if someone else makes a play for it. With the number of active Irish … [Read more...] about Bebo Drop Bebo.ie

HarperCollins, the UK based publishing house, has won a WIPO domain dispute. The dispute centred around the domain: collinsdictionary.com According to Hosterstats the domain was first registered back in 2005, but has been parked ever since. The registrant did not respond, so the domain dispute was decided in HarperCollins' favour. The only odd thing is that the decision is … [Read more...] about HarperCollins Wins WIPO UDRP Case

Gillette.ro WIPO Decision Provides Interesting Comments

May 18, 2009 by Michele Neylon

One of the WIPO decisions published today relates to gillette.ro. The registrant (respondent) didn't make any submissions in their defence, so the decision could have been quite banal. However some of the panelist's comments under the "Registered and Used in Bad Faith" section are quite interesting under:The Panel disagrees with the Complainant's submission that the only … [Read more...] about Gillette.ro WIPO Decision Provides Interesting Comments

May 15, 2009 by Michele Neylon

One of the more recently reported WIPO UDRP cases that caught my attention was in relation to airfrance-suck.comThe decision, which went against the registrant, makes for some interesting reading. The salient points being:The "suck" suffix can be a legitimate defenceA lot of "suck" or "sucks" related WIPO cases end up being ruled in favour of the trademark holderIf you're going … [Read more...] about Air France Win WIPO Case

Ticketmaster have won a WIPO UDRP over a fairly obvious typo of their name:tiicketmaster.comThe decision isn't that interesting as the case wasn't contested by the registrant and the breach of trademark was so obvious. You can read about it on the WIPO site here … [Read more...] about Ticketmaster Typo UDRP Decision
