ICANN Advertising For Director of gTLD Registry Services

ICANN currently has a number of job vacancies open, which isn’t that surprising for an organisation of its size.

One of them, however, caught my eye:

Director, gTLD Registry Services, Los Angeles, United States

Reading the job description this sounds very like the role formerly held by Kurt Pritz (well – one of his roles .. ):

The Director, gTLD Registry Services will direct all activities of the function that performs contract management and policy implementation duties and carries out responsibilities in the following areas (including, but not limited to): development of operational strategies to support the expanding registry community in their efforts to be successful while complying with contract agreements and ICANN policy. The Director, gTLD Registry Services will be the team leader and primary point-of-contact for worldwide gTLD Registry business partners.

Key Responsibilities

Develop and implement operational strategies to prepare for anticipated increase in number of gTLD registries.
Direct process for the evaluation and consideration of new gTLD registry services.
Lead cross-functional teams in the development and implementation of policies and procedures to ensure the security, stability and resiliency of the Internet’s Domain Name System.
Evaluate, recommend and implement workflow and operational enhancements of ICANN’s internal and external business processes and documentation.
Collaborate with the general counsel to administer contracts including new agreements, renewals, assignments, negotiations, revisions, and resolution of all problems.
Manage relationships with gTLD registries to ensure a constructive environment with active, frequent communication and feedback from stakeholders.
Create and implement international education/marketing outreach events for stakeholders to broaden participation in ICANN’s global, multi-stakeholder governance model.
Monitor complaints from the public about gTLD registries and manage the resolution of disputes with registries and global community members.
Determine the implications of the organization’s objectives and develops plans to meet objectives; establish and interpret policies; review and approve procedures; establish organization structure for assigned functions.
Develop and execute a department budget annually through one-year operating and three-year strategic plans.

Required Skills

Understanding of legal, contractual, and policy documents required
Proficiency using Microsoft Office and Adobe Professional
Proven ability to communicate complex and often controversial information, concepts, policies and positions, both verbally and in writing, to internal and external audiences
Ability to solve complex issues in an ambiguous environment
Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to multi-task
Excellent organization-wide management skills for a large, highly diverse workforce across multiple languages and cultures
Ability to travel up to 25% of time
Must have excellent communication skills including fluency in English with multi-lingual skills strongly preferred.

Required Experience

Minimum 7 years related contract management and negotiation experience
Candidates with gTLD registry, ICANN-accredited registrar or ccTLD registry experience in a leadership position are preferred
College degree required
Prior international experience strongly preferred.
