What are People Using .me Domains for?

July 31, 2023 by Michele Neylon

The .me ccTLD has been around since 2008 when the small Balkan country won the ISO jackpot, after gaining independence in 2006, and was given the .me extension to use as their country code.

In common with a lot of other domain name registries .me has been looking at what is going on with their zone.

Who is registering domains?

Why?

What are they using them for?

Having an understanding of how the domains are used is helpful for a registry to better understand their current market as well as to help identify both new opportunities as well as potential gaps.

The registry recently published their second report which does a fairly deep dive into the .me domain zone and looks at both the positive usage, as well as the recognised instance of abuse that the registry is aware of.

Rather than producing a long wordy document they’re releasing the report as a graphic. It’s big and you will need to scroll down quite a bit to read it all! But it’s visual, which is a lot easier to digest than 20 or 30 pages of dense text!

Here’s the report (PDF)

Their previous report can be found here.
