It looks like the Gabon registry is having issues of some kind. While it's not unheard of for a domain registry operator to have technical difficulties they're usually "blips". In the case of the .ga registry, however, it looks like the zone has been having serious issues since September of last year! Stéphane Bortzmeyer conducted a detailed analysis (in French) of what … [Read more...] about Is The Gabon Registry Offline?

Norid (.no) To Permit Companies To Register More Domains

October 19, 2011 by Michele Neylon

That a ccTLD registry would restrict companies in the number of domains they can register is peculiar in some respects, as no such limitation exists in gTLD space .. The .no (Norway) domain registry will be expanding the number of domains entities may register from 30 November 2011. The permitted number will be increased to 100 domains from the current 20. Full details … [Read more...] about Norid (.no) To Permit Companies To Register More Domains

Comments On CoCCA’s Proposals

September 10, 2011 by Michele Neylon

CoCCA have published a set of proposals under the title of "Best Practice Recommendations for Minimising Harm ( and increasing trust ) in small ccTLDs". While the spirit of the proposals is admirable I find the proposals themselves to be more than a little disturbing from both a registrant and registrar viewpoint. Since I'm not sure if the comments on the proposal will be … [Read more...] about Comments On CoCCA’s Proposals

Canadian Domain Registry Embraces Video

August 25, 2011 by Michele Neylon

CIRA logo

ccTLD registry managers have been "upping their game" quite a bit over the last couple of years. Whether this was inevitable or is due to the oncoming "threat" of new TLDs isn't clear. In any case it's a positive move. Some of the registries have embraced social media, unveiled slick websites and done some interesting stuff with multimedia.
