November 9, 2019 by Michele Neylon

The ICANN AGM wrapped up in Montréal earlier this week. As usual the Board held several meetings over the course of the week and during one of them they signed off on the organisation returning to San Juan, Puerto Rico in 2022. ICANN 73 San Juan Puerto Rico will be March 2022, which is the "forum" meeting, which is usually smaller in terms of attendance numbers. Over … [Read more...] about ICANN Chooses Puerto Rico for 2022 Meeting

October 24, 2019 by Michele Neylon

Small white dog wearing gay pride colorful sunglasses outdoors.

The ICANN Community is fairly diverse. At the public meetings people from the four corners of the globe come together to discuss and debate internet governance and related topics. It's nice to see that several members of the ICANN community have been quietly working on a "Rainbow Network" for ICANN's LGBTIQ and allies / friends. At the upcoming meeting in Montréal there … [Read more...] about LGBTIQ Rainbow Network to Kick Off at Montréal ICANN

ICANN Announces Incoming Board Chair

September 10, 2019 by Michele Neylon

ICANN Logo

ICANN's AGM will be held in Montreal, Canada in November. It's the time of the year when several posts on committees, councils and boards are rotated, but a lot of the decisions about who will take on the various roles are made well in advance. Yesterday evening the ICANN Board announced who the new Chair would be and it's Maarten Botterman. He'll be joined by León Felipe … [Read more...] about ICANN Announces Incoming Board Chair

ICANN’s Technical Team Hiring in Uruguay

August 21, 2019 by Michele Neylon

ICANN Logo

ICANN's "Office of the CTO", which of course ends up being called "OCTO", does quite a bit of technical outreach around the world. They've recently announced that they are expanding the team in the Latin American and Caribbean region. The new role will be based out of ICANN's office in Uruguay, though I'd suspect that whoever gets the gig will end up spending a lot of their … [Read more...] about ICANN’s Technical Team Hiring in Uruguay

ICANN Pitching Panel for SXSW

August 15, 2019 by Michele Neylon

ICANN's North American team, in conjunction with Access Now and ISOC, is trying to put together a panel for South by Southwest (SXSW) which is being held in Austin, Texas next March. The panel session being proposed is entitled: "Can we save the global internet?", which is, I suspect, intentionally provocative: Expansion of the Internet has slowed. And the next billion … [Read more...] about ICANN Pitching Panel for SXSW

US Government to ICANN – Move Quickly

April 5, 2019 by Michele Neylon

ICANN Logo

David Redl has written to ICANN in relation to the ongoing work around whois and GDPR. The letter, which was shared with the GNSO Council last night, is a mixed bag. On the one hand it offers the carrot in relation to what's been done so far, but then there's the not so veiled threat, which isn't a revelation by any means, of "domestic legislation". Bottom line the … [Read more...] about US Government to ICANN – Move Quickly
