Tralliance in Trouble – .travel could die

May 20, 2007 by Michele Neylon

It looks like 2007 is going to be an awkward year for the domain world. Earlier we had the collapse of RegisterFly, now we have the strong possibility of the .travel domain going bust. The .travel domain has always been an oddity. The idea behind it is fairly obvious, but when you combine the strict rules, price and length of the domain it becomes apparent why it has been … [Read more...] about Tralliance in Trouble – .travel could die

Where are all the domains?

February 6, 2007 by Michele Neylon

If you were to give a cursory glance at the top list on WebHosting.info you would have to be forgiven for not thinking that there are some very odd patterns: A disproportionate number of the nameservers listed would appear to belong to domain parking companies, while the remainder would probably have a large percentage of "parked" domains as well. While there is nothing … [Read more...] about Where are all the domains?

Eu – One year on – Dangerous Predictions

January 23, 2007 by Michele Neylon

The .eu namespace has been operational for almost a year at this point. In the intervening period we've seen a lot of very upset people, as Eurid's management of both Sunrise and Landrush led to thousands of domains being warehoused. During the same year we also saw the launch of .mobi, which is aimed at the mobile internet. Although the launch of .xxx was put on ice there … [Read more...] about Eu – One year on – Dangerous Predictions

The .eu Price Drop – Not all rosy

December 23, 2006 by Michele Neylon

A couple of short weeks ago Eurid announced that the wholesale rate for .eu domains would drop. The fact that the drop is by a factor of 50% has provoked some interesting reactions. The question that needs to be asked, however, is whether the price drop is simply an attempt by Eurid to boost numbers. When a new TLD or ccTLD opens you can expect there to be a high level of … [Read more...] about The .eu Price Drop – Not all rosy

Domain Status Updated For Squatters

October 5, 2006 by Michele Neylon

John has posted about the change of status on the 74 thousand Ovidio domains, but Eurid has been deathly silent. The biggest problem that Eurid face at this juncture is not how many EU politicos visit their offices, but whether anyone in the industry has any respect left for them. The number of .eu applications that have been rejected on wholly spurious grounds is growing … [Read more...] about Domain Status Updated For Squatters

What is the total cost of an ADR Dispute?

September 28, 2006 by Michele Neylon

Has anyone got any figures (even approximate ones) on the total cost of a successful ADR? I'm working on the basis that you would need to include: - domain registry costs - ADR process costs - legal advice - research (could be included with above or separate) - time Any input would be welcome … [Read more...] about What is the total cost of an ADR Dispute?

Eurid Don’t Care

June 27, 2006 by Michele Neylon

Eurid don't seem to care about cybersquatters. According to an article published by out-law.com the registry is only concerned with the holder's details making them eligible to register the domain. EURid now says that it will confiscate domains at any time if they are found to have broken the rules. "If we find that someone has provided inaccurate or misleading information … [Read more...] about Eurid Don’t Care

IEDR Head Suspects High Level Of Squatting

June 6, 2006 by Michele Neylon

David Curtin, head of the Irish Domain Registry (IEDR) suspects that there are a high number of domains being squatted in the .eu namespace. Speaking to Silicon Republic Curtin made reference to the numbers of .eu domains registered to Irish companies during both the landrush and sunrise periods: According to Curtin, to date 24,754 .eu domains have been registered from … [Read more...] about IEDR Head Suspects High Level Of Squatting

EU Aftermarket Update

May 19, 2006 by Michele Neylon

According to the main page of Sedo they have 124986 .eu domains on offer at present. If you combine the numbers from Sedo with those you get from a quick search on say Afternic then the number climbs to close to 200 000 domains... If you then add the domains that don't even have dns or anything else and have simply been "dumped" in a corner, how many active .eu domains are you … [Read more...] about EU Aftermarket Update
