June 9, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Domain name registrations directly under .uk launch tomorrow morning at 0800 London / Dublin time. Nominet, the .uk registry, have put in place a "grandfathering" system to decide who has the right to register a .uk domain name. Essentially if you have an existing .co.uk domain name registered before October 28th 2013 you get first dibs on the matching .uk domain. In fact … [Read more...] about .Uk Launches Tomorrow

.Paris Takes Over The Eiffel Tower

June 5, 2014 by Michele Neylon

I mentioned the launch of the .paris pioneers earlier this week. Last night there was apparently a big event in Paris at the Eiffel Tower (Champs de Mars) and there were plenty of photos shared by the brands, companies and people in attendance. But what's really impressive is that they were able to get the message up on the side of one of Paris' best known monuments - the … [Read more...] about .Paris Takes Over The Eiffel Tower

XYZ’s Launch Day Video

June 5, 2014 by Michele Neylon

A LOT of the domain name bloggers have been talking about the launch of .xyz over the last few days. Prior to the launch Daniel Negari posted an article on his blog, which of course uses a .xyz domain, and was very optimistic about how the TLD would fare. I don't know Daniel Negari personally, although we have met a couple of times over the last couple of years. What I … [Read more...] about XYZ’s Launch Day Video

ICANN’s Registrar Extranet Taken Offline Due to Security Issues

May 29, 2014 by Michele Neylon

ICANN  announced late last night that they had taken RADAR, which is essentially an extranet for registrars, offline due to security issues. Here's the official announcement: ICANN has taken its registrar contact information database (RADAR) offline temporarily. This action was taken as a precautionary measure after it was learned that an unauthorized party viewed data … [Read more...] about ICANN’s Registrar Extranet Taken Offline Due to Security Issues

Help ICANN Fix Whois Conflicts With Data Privacy Law!

May 23, 2014 by Michele Neylon

ICANN has opened a comment period  in relation to whois conflicts with local law / data privacy law. Of course anytime ICANN, or anyone else, tries to make any changes to whois policy there are issues. Whois is, for a variety of reasons, an emotive subject. One of the areas that Article 29, several registries located in the EU and a number of registrars (including … [Read more...] about Help ICANN Fix Whois Conflicts With Data Privacy Law!

May 22, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Nominet's non-executive director elections have been going on for the last few weeks. They have, as usual, been a little controversial, as various parties made accusations against both Nominet, its board, staff and the other candidates (not necessarily in that order and not necessarily by the same people at the same time .. ) This is "normality", though it's not particularly … [Read more...] about Nominet Elections – Big and Small Elected

May 19, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Calvin Klein are a well known fashion company. The "CK" and Calvin Klein logos are well known. So you'd almost expect a domain dispute involving a domain name with the term "Calvin Klein" in it to be a "slam dunk". However UDRPs and other domain disputes are not quite that predictable as they rely on several factors: the rules trademark law precedent the … [Read more...] about Expletive Renders UDRP Complaint Void
