Fadi Chehadé

ICANN's President and CEO Fadi Chehadé is apparently on Twitter. You'd be forgiven for not knowing, as he's only tweeted once at time of writing: https://twitter.com/icann_president/status/354373185065582592 According to what I can see the account was created on April 21st of this year. July 7, 2013 by Michele Neylon

Disclosure: I'm a member of the group that worked on this I posted in some length about the proposal over on the company blog a few days ago, but ICANN have since posted the video to youtube, so here it is: I wasn't included in the video introduction as I didn't get a chance to record a segment, though I will be involved in the webinar tomorrow afternoon. Google’s .App Under Fire

July 6, 2013 by Michele Neylon

I've written about "closed generic" new TLD applications several times over the last year. I'm opposed to them, as I've said in the past and continue to say today. However I've generally been supportive of "restricted" TLDs. The Association for Competitive Technology (ACT) has serious concerns about Google's application for .app and want ICANN's board of directors to … [Read more...] about Google’s .App Under Fire

The 2013 RAA was approved by ICANN's board of directors less than a week ago. The new contract introduces a number of new obligations on ICANN accredited registrars, among them are several related to data validation, verification and retention. The Article 29 Working Party, however, has written to ICANN and made it very clear that it views these requirements to be … [Read more...] about Article 29 Working Party To ICANN – EU Registrars Exempt From Data Retention Requirements

June 21, 2013 by Michele Neylon

ICANN's board of directors is set to approve the new Registrar Accreditation Agreement (RAA) during a "special" board meeting at the end of the month The board meeting agenda for their 27th June meeting includes several "consent" items, but tucked the main agenda items include the 2013 RAA. Making Sense of GAC Advice?

May 11, 2013 by Michele Neylon

On the final day of the recent ICANN meeting in Beijing the GAC, which includes representatives from many countries' governments, issued their communique as they do at all ICANN meetings. While the contents of a GAC communique always attracts commentary and reaction, the GAC communique from Beijing has probably provoked more debate, anger and confusion than any … [Read more...] about Making Sense of GAC Advice?
