Our NetMundial Brings Some Humour to Internet Governance

April 20, 2014 by Michele Neylon

If you follow Internet Governance circles you'll know that most people involved in the internet policy and governance are either in Brazil or en route there this weekend. NetMundial is being held in São Paulo, Brazil on 23rd and 24th and it's pretty serious business if the agenda is anything to go by. However over on Our Netmundial there's a slightly different message … [Read more...] about Our NetMundial Brings Some Humour to Internet Governance

Closed Generics The Final Battle?

March 20, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Over the past couple of years I've posted several times on the issue of "closed generics". In essence these are new TLD applications where the string is a "generic term" AND the applicant wanted to keep all domains in the registry for their own use. The baseline registry agreement with ICANN now contains language that resolves the issue, or at least it would appear to do … [Read more...] about Closed Generics The Final Battle?

TLD Timeline Knock On Effects?

April 28, 2012 by Michele Neylon

Today is April 28th. At this stage ICANN should have already announced the new TLD applicants or been in a position to do so within a couple of days. Unfortunately they aren't going to be able to make any announcement and when they'll be able to do so is still unclear. The new TLD application system is still offline. The most recent update on the TAS outage is not … [Read more...] about TLD Timeline Knock On Effects?

ICANN Takes “Fail” To A Whole New Level

April 12, 2012 by Michele Neylon

ICANN's new TLD application system is offline

Today is April 12 2012. It's also meant to be the day that the new TLD application window closes. Now it's not. No. ICANN has spectacularly failed to manage the new TLD process and will miss its own deadline by over a week. Any prospective new TLD applicant will be greeted with the following message if they try to access the TAS (the online system ICANN provides for … [Read more...] about ICANN Takes “Fail” To A Whole New Level

February 28, 2012 by Michele Neylon

A couple of hours ago ICANN put their new site design "live". In an email sent by ICANN's Director Marketing and Outreach, Scott Pinzon, an overview of the site's new features was announced. While the new site design will probably be greeted with mixed reviews it does offer a number of features that were long overdue including support for mobile devices. The new site … [Read more...] about ICANN Launch New Website Design
