Cloudnames CEO Expects ICANN To Rewrite Internet Protocols

September 9, 2012 by Michele Neylon

While most of the comments on the SSAC report on “dotless domains” are supportive of the recommendations one of them is completely opposed.

Rolf Larsen of CloudNames wants SSAC to recommend a rewrite of the protocols!

Instead of trying to force the dotbrand owners to not use their TLD like they would want to, why not recommend changes to the Internet protocols?

He also seems to think that ICANN had a special category of new TLD application for dotbrands or that they were given special consideration:

If ICANN didnt want thousands dotbrands, then promoting it and allowing it in this first application round was a bad idea.

You can read the full comment here.

Personally I support the SSAC report and posted a comment outlining why.
