Hugo Boss has won a WIPO UDRP for the domain hugoboss.tv. The only “interesting” part of the decision is that the domain had been held by the registrant since 2005. So was Hugo Boss slow to act or have they only started worrying about their domain portfolio recently? The domain is currently showing eNom’s default… Continue reading Hugo Boss Wins UDRP

Champagne.ie UDRP Decision
The former registrant of the domain champagne.ie probably doesn’t feel like celebrating, as he lost the UDRP against him. You can read the entire decision here on the WIPO site. “Champagne” and related terms have been the subject of domain disputes in several constituencies over the last few years, with the champagne.co.uk decision still being… Continue reading Champagne.ie UDRP Decision
Spiderwick WIPO
One of the latest published decisions from WIPO covers a film currently showing at the US box office – Spiderwick Chronicles. The domain in question is spiderwickmovie.com You can read the decision here Interestingly enough the registrant not only responded but agreed to transferring the domain but not to infringing IP per se: 4. Parties’… Continue reading Spiderwick WIPO
British Museum Wins Domain Dispute
The British Museum has won a dispute involving the domain britishmuseum.com The Museum, which has been established for over 250 years did not have any issue in proving their rights in the name. What is interesting, however, is that the respondent attempted to claim that the UDRP was a reverse hijack. The respondent tried to… Continue reading British Museum Wins Domain Dispute
Sony Wins UDRP
The only UDRP decision that caught my attention this morning concerned Sony. The domain in question was sonyericsson.tv It’s not a particularly exciting decision, as the domain is a clear trademark squat. You can read the full decision here
Facebook Wins WIPO Decision
Facebook, the social networking site that is “flavour de jour”, has won a WIPO UDRP case. The decision isn’t that exciting, as the registrant did not respond. The domain face-book.com is currently parked, but will probably move in the next few days/ weeks.
Trademark Police in Whois Scandal
Jay reports that WIPO’s whois records are not 100% accurate / compliant with ICANN rules. Seemingly they’ve been reported! It would be interesting to see how many high profile sites / organisations actually are publishing accurate WHOIS data.
Defending the indefensible – EUBrowser Denies CyberSquatting
Today’s Irish edition of the Sunday Times has an article on the cybersquatters referred to commonly as “EUBrowser” entitled “Cybersquat Firm Lurks in Digital Hub”. I’ve mentioned them in the past, as they lost several WIPO cases including adidas.ie, buy-sell.ie and a couple of Google squats (googl.ie and googel.ie) that were settled before WIPO had… Continue reading Defending the indefensible – EUBrowser Denies CyberSquatting
DrunkenHobbit.com WIPO Decision
The WIPO decision in the case of The Saul Zaentz Company d/b/a Tolkien Enterprises v. ECWD, Inc. caught my eye as I am a Tolkien fan. It’s an interesting decision on some levels, but is also quite disturbing on others. The registrant has posted a reply of sorts on the site (which hasn’t transferred /… Continue reading DrunkenHobbit.com WIPO Decision
Kelkoo.ie – Trademark Infringement
A surefire way of losing a domain name is when you register one which you have zero entitlement to. It’s one thing when the domain name in question is madeup of words or is an expression of some kind, but when it is a peculiar word it’s very hard to defend that position. Take the… Continue reading Kelkoo.ie – Trademark Infringement
