Welcome to the .uk .. Unless You’re Not in the UK ..

June 10, 2014 by Michele Neylon

The .uk launch today has been getting quite a bit of press coverage. Getting a big name celebrity like Stephen Fry to endorse the shorter namespace is also a nice win for Nominet. As part of the PR around the launch they've also put out a big welcome sign near Heathrow airport: http://youtu.be/_nRZjZO9gk4 And they did register the domain and put up a minisite … [Read more...] about Welcome to the .uk .. May 16, 2014 by Michele Neylon

OVH, a French registrar and hosting provider, has been sent a breach notice by ICANN. The registrar had not updated its whois format to be compliant with the 2013 RAA.   So for example, a whois lookup on ovh.net currently returns:   # local time    : Friday, 16-May-2014 15:22:25 CEST # gmt time      : Friday, 16-May-2014 13:22:25 GMT # last modify   : … [Read more...] about OVH Pulled Up By ICANN Due To Whois Format

Chinese Registrar Bizcn Hit With Breach Notice

May 9, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Chinese registrar BizCN.com has been hit with a breach notice by ICANN. The registrar might not have exactly a "stellar" reputation in certain circles as it's often associated with "rogue online pharmacies" and other forms of online abuse. ICANN's letter to BizCN outlines a number of issues associated with a couple of domains specifically rapetube.org … [Read more...] about Chinese Registrar Bizcn Hit With Breach Notice

Small French Registrar Smacked by ICANN Compliance

May 7, 2014 by Michele Neylon

A small French registrar based in Paris has been sent a breach notice by ICANN's compliance team. Mistername appears to be a very small registrar and from what I can gather has less than 100 names on its accreditation (if it has more then I'm obviously looking in the wrong place!). The Mistername site is incredibly rudimentary and seems to consist of only a couple of … [Read more...] about Small French Registrar Smacked by ICANN Compliance

May 3, 2014 by Michele Neylon

NameCheap has been sent a breach notice by ICANN's Compliance department. The notice, which was sent yesterday, shows that ICANN has been trying to get a response from NameCheap since the middle of March of this year. NameCheap, apparently, is not meeting its contractual obligations to: keep data about domain name registrants and their dealings with NameCheap list … [Read more...] about NameCheap Gets Slapped By ICANN

Exclusive: Internet.bs Response to ICANN Breach Notice

March 10, 2014 by Michele Neylon

I posted a couple of days about the breach notice ICANN had sent to Internet.bs. Earlier this evening Internet.bs' CEO Marco Rinaudo reached out to me and asked me to publish a public response to this. For the record I do not know Mr Rinaudo personally, but I think it is only fair to offer him a an opportunity to address this situation in public. Here's his statement … [Read more...] about Exclusive: Internet.bs Response to ICANN Breach Notice

ICANN Sends Breach Notice to Internet.bs

March 8, 2014 by Michele Neylon

ICANN has sent out a number of breach notices to registrars today, however one does spring out - the one sent to Internet.bs. Internet.bs, which is based in the Bahamas, received quite a bit of negative press in the past from the InfoSec community. One article on Ars Technica, for example, called them out as being the registrar of record for a disproportionately high … [Read more...] about ICANN Sends Breach Notice to Internet.bs

High Profile Sports Site Suspended Due To 2013 RAA

January 21, 2014 by Michele Neylon

Under the terms of the 2013 Registrar Accreditation Agreement registrars are obliged to conduct email verification both on new domain registrations and if there are any changes made to a domain's registration details. For those of us in the industry we suspected and feared that the changes could and would lead to issues and headaches. And it looks like it's already happened … [Read more...] about High Profile Sports Site Suspended Due To 2013 RAA

ICANN's Compliance team have sent a breach notice to registrar Dynamic Dolphin. Why?
