We previously reported that they'd recorded a 12.9% growth during 2011 There are now more than 175 thousand .ie domain names registered. FM Registry Releases Top 40

April 17, 2012 by Michele Neylon

BRS Media, the people behing both .am and .fm domain registries, have released the rather aptly named "Top 40" of .fm domain names. The list includes some familiar names (to me), while others are not so well known, at least to a Westerner like me. The top 10 are: douban.fm - A Chinese music site. Seemingly targetted at a youthful demographic wbr.fm - Warner Brothers … [Read more...] about FM Registry Releases Top 40

ICM Submit Applications For More Adult Extensions

April 12, 2012 by Michele Neylon

ICM Registry, the company behind .xxx, are applying for 3 other adult strings in the new TLD round. The company has submitted applications for .adult, .porn and .sex. I may be mistaken, but I suspect that all three of the desired strings are going to prove problematic. If the debate and controversy around .xxx was heated at times, then any application for more overt … [Read more...] about ICM Submit Applications For More Adult Extensions

The UK registry, Nominet, recently hit the 10 million domain mark and to mark the event they're running a prize draw. If you're a UK resident and you register OR renew a UK domain between now and April 26th you'll be entered into the daily draw for an iPad. (And as I'm obviously biased I'd … [Read more...] about UK Registry Launch Prize Draw To Celebrate 10 Million Registrations

Nominet, the .uk registry, announced yesterday that they'd broken the 10 million domains mark. The .uk registry is currently the 2nd largest country code extension in the world. Later this year the registry will be introducing multi-year … [Read more...] about Nominet Breaks 10 Million Domains

DotPro Registry Migrating To Afilias Backend

March 8, 2012 by Michele Neylon

The .pro registry will be migrating to the Afilias EPP system in June 2012. The move is hardly surprising, as the .pro registry was acquired by Afilias early this year. What impact will this have on registrants? Pretty much none. Registrars, however, will need to re-integrate their backend systems with the registry and unfortunately their existing connections with … [Read more...] about DotPro Registry Migrating To Afilias Backend

Irish Country Code High Risk For Business

March 6, 2012 by Michele Neylon

If you're going to choose a country code for your business you might want to think long and hard about choosing the .ie ccTLD. Why? Because if you reorganise your business you might end up losing your domain. In several recent cases the IEDR have flatly refused to update the registrant details on domain names citing registry rules that were never applied to the initial … [Read more...] about Irish Country Code High Risk For Business

Nominet To Apply For .Wales and .Cymru

March 3, 2012 by Michele Neylon

Lesley Cowley - Nominet CEO

In the run up to the launch of new TLDs there were a lot of rumours about which organisations would apply for which strings. Detractors might pick holes in the entire project, but it's very hard to argue against the merits of new TLDs specifically in the context of cultural linguistic communities that fall outside the realm of ccTLDs (country code top level domains). The … [Read more...] about Nominet To Apply For .Wales and .Cymru
